Renowned pianist Wu Han will head the six-member ensemble, which includes the brilliant young violinist Arnaud Sussmann. Their program - "French Virtuosity" - includes a wide variety of music from Ravel, Leclair, and Françaix, and will feature Chausson's remarkable Concerto for Piano, Violin, and String Quartet -- it will be a real treat to hear this seldom-performed but scintillating work.
The music of France has been perennially vibrant, colorful and elegant. In this thrilling program, Leclair’s Concerto for Violin, String Quartet and Continuo exemplifies the values and aspirations of the Age of Enlightenment: clarity and rationality; balance, harmony and proportion, and avoidance of excess or exaggeration. Françaix’s String Trio which follows is infused with the composer’s signature exuberance and impeccable craftsmanship. The program concludes with Chausson's remarkable Concerto for Violin, Piano and String Quartet, a tour de force work which synthesizes brilliant instrumental virtuosity and intimate ensemble playing like no other.
