“The magnetic young German cellist Daniel Mueller-Schott administered a dose of adrenaline…, a fearless player with technique to burn, made child’s play of the work’s difficulties. But even more impressive were his gorgeous, plush tone and his meticulous attention to expression…” The New York Times

He appears regularly at international music festivals such as the Vancouver Chamber Music Festival and the City of London Festival, as well as those in Schleswig-Holstein, Rheingau, Schwetzingen, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Lucerne, and Ravinia.

Because of his life-long love for the music of J.S. Bach, Mr. Mueller-Schott chose the Six Suites for Solo Cello for his first recording (Glissando Records). Since then, he has made numerous highly acclaimed recordings for several well-known labels and works closely with the Orfeo label. His CD with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, which presents his own arrangements of Haydn’s cello concertos and Beethoven’s violin romances, was awarded the highest possible ratings by Gramophone, Fono Forum and Luister magazines. For his recording of the cello concertos by Elgar and Walton with the Oslo Philharmonic under Sir André Previn (Orfeo), he was awarded the Vierteljahrespreis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik. Recently released recordings include a DVD of the Mozart Piano Trio with Anne-Sophie Mutter and Sir André Previn (Deutsche Grammophon); the Shostakovich cello concertos with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra under Yakov Kreizberg (Orfeo); the Brahms Double Concerto with Julia Fischer and the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, also under Yakov Kreizberg (Pentatone); and Bach’s Gamba Sonatas with Angela Hewitt (Orfeo). In connection with the Bach Gamba Sonatas recording, Mr. Mueller-Schott will appear with Angela Hewitt in concerts around the world during the next two years.

Daniel Mueller-Schott plays the Saphir ex-Shapiro Matteo Goffriller cello made in Venice in 1727. He studied under Walter Nothas, Heinrich Schiff and Steven Isserlis. At the age of fifteen, he received worldwide acclaim by taking first prize at Moscow’s International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians. More recently, he has benefited from the personal sponsorship and support of Anne-Sophie Mutter as the holder of a scholarship from her foundation.

Born in 1976, Mr. Mueller-Schott lives in his hometown of Munich. A sports enthusiast, he is also extremely interested in art. The way 19th century French painters handle color and light is a constant source of fascination and inspiration.
